The via di Pantaneto extends towards the Porta Romana, becoming the via Roma, a street interspersed with majestic palazzi. In particular, on the right, is the Palazzo San Galgano, now the University's Faculty of Literature.
Palazzo San Galgano
This building dates from the end of the fifteenth century and is Florentine in inspiration: the rusticated composition of the two original floors is set off by the material chosen for the building – tufo – which lends warm and distinctive tones to the whole. The graceful loggia which rises above these floors was commissioned by the monks of San Galgano. The abbey of this venerated saint of medieval Siena, close to the city, is one of the most remarkable examples of medieval architecture in Italy.
